VISA APPLICATION

If you belong to Schengen countries, then you will not need a student visa. However, if you do not belong to it then you have to do the following steps:

  • Decide on a university and get an acceptance letter.
  • Decide on the type of student visa that you need. The visa is 1 80-days D type visa – Study duration in Spain is between three and six months. Student visa (type D) – if you plan to study in Spain more than six months
  • After you get accepted to a Spanish university, then contact the Spanish embassy for Visa application process.
  • The documents that are needed for a student visa in Spain are the passport, medical certificate, visa application fee, criminal record certificate, letter of acceptance and health insurance.

ADMISSION INTAKES

There are usually three intakes in Spain. They are:

  • The first week of June: for studies beginning in the fall semester (October)
  • The first week of September: late application for studies starting in the fall semester (October)
  • The first week of December: for studies beginning in the spring semester (February)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor/Undergraduate: Should have a valid school leaving certificate and should be qualified for higher studies in his home country thus making him qualified to study in Spain as well.
  • Master/Postgraduate: A relevant Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent diploma
  • PhD. D.: An appropriate Master’s degree or equivalent diploma
  • Language requirements: If you want to study courses, that are taught in English, then you need to take IELTS or TOEFL. If you wish to study in Spanish, then you need to take a Spanish language proficiency test.

WORKING WHILE STUDYING

An international student is allowed to work in Spain for 20 hours a week. The work should not interfere with the studies. The employment contract cannot exceed the duration of the study visa.

ACCOMMODATION

The tuition and living costs depend upon the degree you are pursuing, where you are studying and in which city you are staying. The primary housing options for international students in Spain are:

  • Student residence: 360 to 650 EUR per month
  • Rent an apartment: 450 to 700 EUR per month
  • Home-stay: 700 to 800 EUR per month

The standard costs that accompany accommodation are goods of basic needs and the internet. Prices for monthly groceries range from 300 to 450 EUR per month. A monthly transport pass is 42

EUR and a little over 54 EUR in large cities.

On average the expected tuition rate is around 1000 Euros per semester. The private colleges tend to be more expensive.
